• THE LIFE OF A 48x40PALLET:New —>Grade A #1—>Grade B #2—>Sent to the Grinder
    • There are two reasons why these 2 pallet types are arguably the most requested pallet types in North America. A 48×40 is the most widely used pallet size and you won’t pay a cheaper price for that size! Why wouldn’t you want to use these?
  • EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW:
    • SIMPLE SIMILARITIES: We begin with ‘The Quick 4’:
      • Both are Recycled(comprised of all used material)
      • Both are 48 inches long and 40 inches wide
      • Both have 4-WAY forklift access.
      • Both can hold the same weight
    • APPEARANCE:
      • Grade A #1 Pallets are always going to look better to the eye than Grade B #2’s simply because #1’s haven’t been in circulation as long as #2’s. A #1 Recycled pallet has all of it’s original stringers, requiring no reinforced plugs, braces, or staples to keep them supported. A #1 becomes a #2 when it starts requiring these ‘plugs’ for structural reinforcement. Both types are still structurally sound and capable of performing the same tasks, just #1’s are more aesthetically pleasing.
    • PRICING:
      • For over 30 years, there has been approximately a 20-25% cost difference between these 2 used pallet types. Cost for both fluctuates with supply & demand. Which type a customer orders simply depends on their preference or their end customer’s preference. If no one cares how they look, #2’s are the way to go. But if there is request for somewhat of a reasonable appearance, then #1’s are your best bet.
    • WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND:
      • Both Grade A #1’s and Grade B #2’s originally began their lives as NEW Wood Pallets that got circulated over time from pallet scrap removals to become part of the Used/Recycled Pallet Market. With this said, it’s important to keep in mind that the market for #1’s & #2’s solely depends on how many NEW Wood Pallets are in circulation at any given time. I’m saying this because the market has ‘dried-up’ a handful of times over the past decade and when it does, the shortage of #1’s & #2’s begins to affect the customers who use them. It’s always important for customers to think about New pallets as an alternative in order to prevent being affected by these shortages when they do arise. Let us know, we can help!
